10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 21st Century
3. Disturbed - The Sickness
Released in March of 2000, ‘The Sickness’ narrowly qualifies for this list. As the first nu metal era band to feature in this article (but not the last), Disturbed brought us a brand of nu metal that was darker, harsher and more aggressive than their genre counterparts.
More rap metal tainted music from the likes of Papa Roach, and Linkin Park dominated the genre mostly, but heavier names like Disturbed and Slipknot still managed to slip through. Unapologetically powerful vocals guide every song on this now classic record, with key performances coming from ‘Down With the Sickness’, ‘Voices’ and ‘Violence Fetish’.
Since ‘The Sickness’, Disturbed have maintained their dominant metal presence and now have seven studio albums to their name. The latest of which, 2018’s ‘Evolution’, received mixed reviews from critics despite its great chart performances.
