10 Best Debut Rock Music Albums Of The 2010s

5. Kvelertak - Kvelertak

You can always count on the Scandinavians to offer up some great metal music and this proud tradition was present throughout the 2010s.

Right at the start of the decade, Norway offered up a very strong candidate when the band Kvelertak (meaning Stranglehold in Norwegian) put out their first offering.

Self-titled, the album is almost entirely in the band's native tongue. There is one song that's randomly called "Sultans of Satan", but maybe the wordplay was just too good to miss out on?

Prior knowledge of Scandinavian rock might lead you to believe that this is a black metal album or something similar. Whilst there are definitely elements of that, it's not all worshipping the devil and burning down churches.

There's a lot of very strong song-crafting going on here; several songs will make you bounce in the way that only a good rock song can. Many numbers switch up midway through, meaning that you'll never quite know exactly what's coming next.

Kvelertak's infectious energy breaks down any language barrier and will have you frantically Google Translating what these fantastic Norweigans are on about.
