6. I'm Coming Out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzpP0KbjHU8 It's time to return back to 1980's diana for the star's next track - the explosion of camp that is I'm Coming Out. Nile Rodgers' was
inspired to write the song after witnessing a barrage of Diana Ross drag impersonators and wanted to capture the freedom that disco (including Diana's music) brought to many. The track also reflected Ross 'finally coming out' of her time from Motown and embracing new record label, RCA . However, most listeners were quick to note the gay connotations of the track and it quickly became an anthem of gay liberation. It's understandable when you see lyrics like "The time has come for me, to break out of the shell, I have to shout That I'm coming out!" The track stood as another Dance #1 for Diana and received success throughout Europe. It still proves completely endearing today with its joyful message and slick, catchy production (boasting one of the funkiest trombone solos imaginable) - making it one of the high points of her career.
