10 Best Drum Solos In Classic Rock

2. Moby Dick - Led Zeppelin

Every single drummer in the rock pantheon can trace their lineage back to John Bonham. From Led Zeppelin's hard rockers to the band's songwriting epics, no one beat the drums with such ferocity as the late Bonzo. When compiling tracks for their second record, the band decided to step aside and let the drums do the talking.

"Moby Dick" starts off with one of the funkiest riffs that the band had ever created, which pause at just the right time to leave space for Bonham's fills. Then, the guitars fade and it's time to get down to business. Bonham's manic energy behind the kit led to some of the wildest fills ever laid down on a record. Drummers are known to be the more neanderthalic members of the band, but Bonzo's performance is probably the closest you can get to seeing a musician truly become an animal behind their instrument.

The whole thing even devolves into Bonham forsaking his sticks and beating the life out of his skins with his bare hands. It's moments like these that you realize why Zeppelin decided not to continue on after Bonzo passed away. His drumming was as essential to every song as Jimmy Page's guitar was.
