5. Like Toy Soldiers

Sentimentality is certainly something that's within Eminem's ball park and, in Like Toy Soldiers, he hits a home run right out of the park with it.

Mockingbird was a sad tale. When I'm Gone depicts the startling realisation that his time in the spotlight may be up. Like Toy Soldiers, is however a heartbreaking rendition of the little drummer-boy that shows the consequential reality of behind-the-scenes drama and what happens when it inadvertently causes someone's time to be up. Indefinitely.

The sense of grandeur that the media, public and others in the industry give to these feuds is nonsensical at best, which is the notion that Em perpetuates. He puts the timeline of one of these "beefs" - 50 Cent and Ja Rule - on show. In its most primal and realistic form. Before leaving us on the poignant note that it simply doesn't have to be this way.

The evocative transcendentality of Martika's sample that oversees the proceedings is just one of those contributing features, but the serene darkness that is enveloped in this video - predominantly documenting his friend and fellow D12 compatriot "Bugz" being murdered - is the most unsettling and gut-wrenching part of the video. Or it would be, if, in the most tragic imbuement of art imitating reality, Proof (another member of D12) who plays "Bugz" in the video - who is dying after being shot - wasn't to undergo his own untimely death only two years later in the same exact way.
