3. Without Me
Without Me was conceived as the sequel to The Real Slim Shady, and is arguably even better. The fun and hysteria are ramped up another notch, and on an incidental note, the video's cracking. The song is built on a fantastic, rubbery beat by Dre, and contains snatches of sax as Shady heads to the clubs with the intention of taking over the place. Beefs with Moby, Chris Kirkpatrick, Limp Bizkit and his own mother are well and truly put to bed, and new ones opened with the FFC and even the Vice President, Dick Cheny. Say what you like about Marshall Mathers, he's never aimed low. After parent album The Eminem Show, Eminem withdrew into himself in a fug of depression and addiction issues. Ground on the rap scene would be lost and The Slim Shady character more or less put to bed completely. Without Me was a hell of a way to go out.
