10 Best Female Drummers Of All Time

3. Senri Kawaguchi

Born in Nagoya, Japan in 1997, Senri Kawaguchi began playing drums when she was five years old when her father brought home an electric drumkit.

At six she began taking drum lessons, and by the time she was eight she was taking lessons from prestigious drummer Kozo Sugunama and released her debut DVD (Horoscope) in 2009. Her career was only just beginning to take off.

A renowned and multi award-winning fusion and jazz drummer, Kawaguchi has been given the nickname tekazuhime in Japan (“Princess of many strokes”) as her career has seen her rocket to the top of the international drumming world.

She has released a total of three CDs to date (her first when she was only 16), made several TV appearances, collaborated with some of the biggest names in Japanese jazz, and has even played drums for J-pop group The E-Girls. Not to mention her various festival performances and being a regular judge in the Hit Like A Girl drum competition.

Playing with such control and finesse, Kawaguchi makes everything she does look so easy and natural. She's the definition of a drumming prodigy.
