10 Best Frontmen In Alternative Rock
5. Alex Turner - Arctic Monkeys
Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury; we Brits have a proud history of giving the world some of the greatest frontmen in rock. With distinct vocal deliveries, shameless charisma, and an ability to hold a crowd spellbound, British frontmen are just in another league.
Alex Turner is the 21st Century's definitive rock star. From the early days as a scrappy little indie rocker - barely old enough to buy a pint, singing about awkward interactions on the dance floor - to the swaggering, pompadour-sporting crooner of today, Alex Turner has become an icon of not only British rock, but of rock as an institution.
As his band has evolved, moving through indie, garage, desert and hard rock, so has Turner. He's been the fresh-faced, mod-tinged, indie kid; the leather clad, teddy boy; and the suit wearing crooner of more recent years. He's embodied every shift in musical tone, visually as well as sonically, with ease.
Now, some might argue, that Turner, comes across somewhat arrogant at times, and maybe they wouldn't be wrong... , he has developed a confidence not unlike the Gallagher brothers - only with slightly less hard-man talk. But for all that, there's no denying Alex Turner is one hell of a wordsmith, and damn does he know how to work a crowd.
