9. Skinty Fia - Fontaines D.C.
Irish post-punk unit Fontaines D.C. have made quite the name for themselves since their debut release back in 2019.
Through their evocative sound, nihilistic lyrics, and singer Grian Chatten's distinctive tones, the band have won legions of fans and have established themselves as one of the frontrunners of alternative rock on the British and Irish scene.
Following the success of their second album A Hero's Death, the band put out Skinty Fia in April 2022 to rave reviews across the board. The record continued the doom and gloom feel of their previous work, whilst taking their songwriting and melody-crafting skills to new heights.
Tracks like Jackie Down The Line and Big Shot maintained the menace that the group had become known for, whilst songs like The Couple Across The Way opened listeners' ears to the more emotional, observational capabilities of the five-piece.
The album became the first chart-topper for the band, proving that the curse of the tricky third release doesn't carry across the Irish Sea. Looking forward to seeing what's next from the lads.
