10 Best Hard Rock Albums Of The 80s

9. KISS - Creatures Of The Night

In the early 80's, it wasn't really that cool to be a band like KISS anymore. Sure, the shows were spectacular and the music made you feel elated, but the makeup and bombast began to feel too manufactured for some of the hard rock faithful. Combine that with the band coming off a lackluster concept album and KISS became one of the top frontrunners for yesterday's news.

On the other hand, one look at KISS tells you that they are a band that will no go away without a fight. The band quickly realized that what they needed to do was to go back to what made them loved in the first place: making some of the most kickass rock music they can make. Creatures of the Night is a true return to form for the group, bringing 9 tracks of killer riffs and arena rock bombast. The group's addition of drummer Eric Carr resulted in a thunderous drum sound that gave the band a new element of heaviness. Songwriters Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons's most metallic compositions appear on this record from the title track to "Keep Me Comin" and "I Love It Loud."

With their career nearly floundering, KISS dug down deep and delivered a truly stunning hard rock assault.
