10 Best Hard Rock Albums Of The 90s
1. Nevermind - Nirvana
In all honesty, could it have been anything else? Perhaps the most influential band of the entire decade with inarguably the most influential album of it. Nevermind is a piece of music history already.
With their seminal album, Nirvana set the stage for the grunge wave that swept over the decade with such vigour. Each song is a love letter to a generation of disillusioned youths who identified with the angst and pain etched into every note. Cobain became a symbol to all of them that their disillusionment, that feeling of being lost in the world, would not hold them back from greatness.
Songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are are instantly recognisable classics while the rest of the album holds up, if not betters, these two famous tracks. In Bloom, Lithium, Drain You, On A Plain...there is no end to the brilliance of Nevermind, it is an album with no track that ever drops below the high standards it sets for itself.
It was the album that truly introduced the world to the tortured genius of Kurt Cobain and, equally, the brilliant musical mind of one Dave Grohl. A generation captured in an album, Nevermind is truly one of the greatest pieces of art of the 90's, let alone it's greatest Hard Rock album.
