10 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Live Bands Of 2017

7. Creeper

Creeper are a band genetically engineered for the post-My Chemical Romance generation, bringing with them the same elaborate costumes and horror punk inspirations, but also a cult appeal through their simple origins, hard rise to fame and genuine lyrics.

They’re in the good graces of pretty much everyone, from pop fans to die-hard metalheads. And that’s because there is a lovable relatability and honesty about Creeper: they have changed very little since their days as a local punk band in Southampton’s plethora of dingy bars.

As a result, seeing this niche six-piece play the main stage of Download Festival is a hugely gratifying thing. Despite a fairly mediocre turnout, the band undeniably nailed it on the big stage, hinting at a very great future ahead of these young idols.

Then, that October, Creeper proved that they can still hold their own in the club scene, playing a manic show in their home venue of the 200-capacity Joiners pub under the pseudonym of “the Midnight Kids”. Tickets to the event sold out in a quarter of an hour, resulting in a gig so sweaty and cramped that it just had to be one of the best of the year.
