10 Best Hard Rock Cover Songs

3. Mercyful Fate Medley - Metallica

Any hardcore Metallica fan knows that the band always loved to do covers of their beloved British Heavy Metal bands' greatest hits. From their early shows to modern day, Metallica still incorporate everyone from Queen to DiamondHead to Thin Lizzy into their stage catalog.

This love of their influences culminated in their Garage Inc. album, which featured exclusively cover songs of the band's favorite artists. While their renditions of songs like Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" and Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar" are still stunning, their medley of songs by Mercyful Fate may be some of the best arrangements to appear on a Metallica track.

Coming out of Denmark in the early 80's, Mercyful Fate never saw too much success out of metal circles. Instead of performing just one tune, Metallica's run through classics like "Satan's Fall," "Curse of the Pharaohs," and "Evil" were both fantastic interpretations while exposing this shock rock band to a completely different audience. Spanning nearly 11 minutes, the song does not waste a moment of time as it takes you on a mini-journey through heavy metal's glory days.

Coming towards the end of the compilation, "Mercyful Fate" remains an undiscovered masterpiece in the Metallica catalog.
