10 Best Hard Rock Drummers Of The '90s

7. Taylor Hawkins - Foo Fighters

After Nirvana imploded, no one would have blamed Dave Grohl if he never wanted to make music ever again. Given how huge the Seattle titans were when they burst onto the rock scene, the tragic death of Kurt Cobain left Grohl desensitized and questioning whether he even wanted to make music anymore.

While the beginning of Foo Fighters was more of a one man band with Dave playing all the instruments, the real power of the group really hit its stride when Taylor Hawkins came into the fold.

Unhappy with drummer William Golsmith, Grohl originally found Hawkins as the touring drummer for Alanis Morrissette. Even though a gig with one of the biggest stars of '90s alt-rock was fairly lucrative, Hawkins found himself fitting in like a glove in the Foo Fighters, with a style that was just strong enough to match Grohl's best moments in his old band.

After years of being skeptical about the drums not really sounding right in the mix, it was almost like Grohl didn't have to worry about the drums anymore once Hawkins got behind the kit. There's no mistaking that Dave Grohl is the face of the Foo Fighters, but Taylor Hawkins has become the beating heart of the band as the years have gone on.
