10 Best Hard Rock Guitar Riffs From The 2000s
9. Slither - Velvet Revolver (2004)
Velvet Revolver was Guns N' Roses in all but name.
The turmoil of the Roses interpersonal relationships was as much apart of their legacy as their music. Towards the end of their first stint together the majority of its members had either left or were fired by the ever more controlling Axl Rose. But the core elements that made that group so great weren't destined to remain apart for long.
In 2002 Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum pulled in Scott Weiland to front a new supergroup. They soon set about recording some of more exhilarating songs of the decade.
For a bunch of guys who were well past the virtues of youth, they still knew how to rock out. Slash has remained a guitar playing icon, but despite his impressive ability to shred he hasn't written a riff like this in a long time. But, Slither proved he didn't need Axl to make genre defining music.
This riff had an instantly recognisable hook, there was the energy of early Guns N' Roses but with the stylings of a heavier 21st Century brand of rock.
