8. Joker And The Thief - Wolfmother (2005)

Despite the some what mean spirited comparisons to Led Zeppelin and The White Stripes, it's undeniable that people ate up what Wolfmother had to offer with a ravenous enthusiasm.

There was a period during the 2000s when you couldn't go long without hearing the tracks Women or Joker And The Thief. And it's understandable why, the latter track in particular had a guitar hook that lent itself perfectly to exciting movie montages - especially when that footage was of the Jackass crew causing critical damage to themselves.

It's that old cliché that the best guitar riffs are often times the most simple. It was certainly true with this number. With six repeated notes Andrew Stockdale could count himself amongst the axmen responsible for writing the most learned tracks by budding young guitarists.

Although the follow up to Wolfmother's debut album contained engaging rock numbers like New Moon Rising, Stockdale never quite managed to recapture the magic of his early hits. Perhaps it was the voice that sounds a little too similar to Jack White, or the lack of variety of Wolfmother's later records...
