10 Best Hard Rock Guitar Riffs From The 2000s

5. Cochise - Audioslave (2002)

Tom Morello proved there was life after Rage Against The Machine, when he and fellow band members recruited Chris Cornell to front Audioslave.

The combined pressure of coming off the back of two of the biggest bands of the 1990s can't have been easy. Soundgarden had been huge on the grunge scene and Rage Against the Machine had been the face of politically charged rap-rock.

Although these bands had both been part of heavily influential sub genres of rock, they were nevertheless very different. After Zach De La Rocha left Rage the band jammed with Cypress Hill's B-Real but elected to go in another direction for fear of repeating what they had done previously.

The god father of modern rock music Rick Rubin suggested the band pull in Chris Cornell. Now they had the vocal power to compliment Tom Morrello's guitar playing.

Cochise was the biggest number from Audioslave's debut record. Morello gave us straightforward no nonsense riff work. It was full of Rage's previous energy but had a more refined touch in its delivery.

Morrello just knows how to get you moving with his fret work.
