10 Best Hard Rock Guitar Riffs From The 2000s

3. 3's & 7's - Queens Of The Stone Age (2007)

If there was one band who was particularly prolific at giving the world classic guitar riffs during the 2000s it was Queens Of The Stone Age.

No One Knows, Go With The Flow and Make It Wit Chu all deserve recognition for keeping the love of distorted guitar music alive. But 3's & 7's has to be the number that gets the award for most distinctive. The chord progression is not a million miles away from Nirvana's Smell Like Teen Spirit, it has a different pattern and theres a few extra chords thrown in but the similarities are there.

It's the deployment of some suitably screechy slide guitar that gives this track the edge, though. Pump enough effects through a guitars amp and you'll be able to get some pretty unique noises from a slide. In this case the riff sounded like the maniacal laughing of a killer clown.

If you couldn't master this on the guitar there was always Guitar Hero 3 to fall back on. Hitting a perfect streak on expert mode was cause for adulation amongst any group of gamers.
