10 Best Hard Rock Guitar Riffs From The 2010s

8. Inhaler - Foals (2012)

When Foals dropped the single Inhaler back in 2012 as a precursor to their 2013 album Holy Fire, it was an exciting insight as to the musical direction the band was paving for itself.

The opening riff threaded that line that Foals do so well, part dance step anthem and part heavy rock track. With plenty of reverb and smattering of chorus, the alternating arpeggio picking pattern, has become one of their most anticipated tracks at their live shows. As soon as it's heard, the frantic energy of the melody reverbarates through the crowd and everyone knows the next four and half minutes are going to get a little bit more wild.

Yannis Philippakis is one hell of a lead singer, but his propensity to create memorable, instantly recognisable and unique guitar riffs earns him a place amongst the more highly regarded guitar players of the last decade.

There's an off kilter and unpredictable nature to this riff, that gives it this wild and slightly dangerous appeal. For anyone who has not yet experienced a Foals show, make it a priority. This song will be one of the more frenzied experiences you've had a live gig.
