10 Best Hard Rock Guitar Riffs From The 2010s
7. Grinder - Gary Clark Jr. (2015)
If you've missed Gary Clark Jr. in the last decade, do you even rock bro?
From a young age, Gary Clark Jr. was playing the Austin, Texas music scene, brushing plectrums with the likes of Jimmie Vaughan (brother to the late Stevie Ray Vaughan). Vaughan took the young Clark Jr. under his wing and helped him establish himself in the music business.
The Vaughan brother were known for their distinctive take on blues rock, and you'd think anyone playing guitar around either of them would surely be heavily influenced by their sound. You can hear a touch of that in Clark Jr.'s playing, but this guy has most definitely got his own vibe going on, and According to Jimmie Vaughan, this has always been the case.
Grinder is all about the vibe. Jimi Hendrix supposably said "The blues is easy to play, but hard to feel" well, Gary Clark Jr. can feel the blues alright, Grinder was oozing with it. It was the driving blues chord progression (injected with just enough rock sensibility) that gave this track an unrelenting sense of motion, but Clark Jr.'s guitar riffing throughout, was what made it one of the most irresistible rock tracks of the decade.
