10 Best Hard Rock Intros

8. Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine

As the '90s turned a corner, rock was turning over a new leaf. Whereas the rest of the previous decade had been dominated by bands who looked ridiculous and had songs that sounded like pop trash, the entire rock scene would start its shakeup thanks to the booming sounds coming from Seattle. However, something equally cathartic was rearing its head a little further south.

While Rage Against the Machine had their eclectic mix of rock and hip hop down to a science, there was something about the beginning of Killing in the Name that could get any hard rocker's blood pumping. With the first barrage of chords hitting you from the start, the triplet groove coming from Tim Commerford and Tom Morello is enough to put the listener on edge. In a way, it almost tricks you into settling into its groove before the main riff comes in to tear your head off.

As soon as Zack de la Rocha utters the song title, we are treated to one of the heaviest riffs of the '90s, which was the perfect platform to denounce the corrupt police forces across the United States. It takes a lot for kids to pay attention to lyrics like this, but the first few seconds of this song don't so much entice you as they do beat you over the head.
