10 Best Hard Rock Intros
2. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of those songs that has transcended what we know to be rock music. Going beyond just the standard headbanging tune, this brainchild of Freddie Mercury turned into one of the greatest songs of the 20th century, from the operatic middle section to the hard rock finale. However, even the greatest of songs have to start somewhere.
It would be one thing to just start the album with vocals, but Mercury goes the extra mile by layering all of his vocals himself. For the first few seconds of the song, all you're hearing is a combination of Freddie's vocal tracks, almost as if he decided to forego hiring a choir to just sing the damn song himself. Not only does this set up the grandeur that lies ahead, but also sets up what kind of material we would be in for in the next six minutes.
While it's impressive enough to have the song start off with this kind of vocal performance, that is only the tip of the iceberg, as the band plows through piano showcases, guitar solos, and layers upon layers of more vocals before achieving musical perfection. Some bands may just stick to the traditional song structure of verse-chorus-verse, but Bohemian Rhapsody might be the closest thing the hard rock world has to a symphony.
