10 Best Hard Rock Songs Of The 2000's
1. Knights Of Cydonia - Muse
With the hard rock genre fast becoming dominated by throwback acts, there were no real bands who seemed to be taking chances. While calling from the past was certainly novel, finding a band that gave a more bombastic sonic blast was much harder to come by. Muse didn't get the memo about this though.
Across their professional careers, this English power trio had been taking evocative space rock and mixing it with punk and metal to create a stomping musical concoction. This all culminated at the end of their masterwork Black Holes and Revelations, where the group went for a Spaghetti western in the stars.
Starting with the stomping of hooves, "Knights of Cydonia" kicks the door down from the get-go as it leads the listener on a brisk musical gallop through the more ethereal sides of rock and roll. Once the intensity becomes too much to bear, the song shifts into one of the greatest harmony vocals the band have ever made before settling into one of the most badass riffs of the entire decade. In order to take rock where it had never been before, Muse gave their listeners a track from another planet entirely.
