10 Best Hard Rock Songs Of The 2000's
7. Digital Bath - Deftones
Though the nu metal genre was weathering through a strange period at the turn of the century, there was still fantastic groups to be found amongst the wannabes. While Deftones had made a name for themselves as one of the greatest bands of the genre in the 90's, the debut single off their record White Pony showed that the band were up to even greater sonic detours.
With its ethereal soundscapes and electronic ambience, "Digital Bath" lulls you in right from its opening notes. The subtle guitars wash over you while vocalist Chino Moreno bring you into a sense of sonic bliss. However, the lyrics show that this has been a false sense of security, as Moreno tells a macabre story about taking a girl home only to electrocute her in a bathtub. Once the evil deed has been done, the song erupts with a much greater musical bite as Moreno becomes more and more infatuated with his new corpse lover.
The band's use of experimentation across the next few years would often get fans to call them the Radiohead of the metal genre. "Digital Bath" may not be the most heartfelt tale on this list, but the grit behind these guitars are something to behold.
