10 Best Hard Rock Songs Of The 2000's
4. BYOB - System Of A Down
Throughout the 2000's, System of a Down were a band that always prided themselves on their more off-the-wall musical styles. Incorporating everything from metal to art rock to Eastern soundscapes, nothing seemed to be off the table for this alt-metal band to tackle. Once fans got a listen to the band's latest single "BYOB," the band's political edge was brought out in full force once again.
Daron Malakian's pummeling riffs give way to Serj Tankian's manic vocal performance, as he gives terrifying accounts of the well-being of Americans in a voice that sounds like a game show host from Hell. As the song reaches its midpoint, the listener has a moment to breath with a more groovy section before being thrown back into the pit again as Malakian takes over vocal duties for a section that sounds like the epitome of anarchy.
While it may seem like a typical thrasher, the lyrics are also soul-stirring, as they talk of Americans being sent off to a war that they don't want to fight, leaving the poor unable to fight for themselves and the rich businessmen even richer. Originally titled "Bring Your Own Bombs," this System track certainly lives up to it's title's more explosive intentions.
