10 Best Heavy Metal Live Bands Of 2018

3. Rolo Tomassi

Rolo Tomassi have had such a fantastic year in 2018 that just to mention their name is sometimes enough to put a smile on a metalhead’s face. Firstly, back in March, Sheffield’s progressive hardcore troupe overcame heart-breaking personal strife and transformed it into unbridled creativity on their fifth album, Time Will Die & Love Will Bury It. While the record reaped acclaim, Rolo Tomassi capitalised with a tour of the UK in April, before performing at festivals like Download, ArcTanGent and Resurrection Fest over the summer.

But it wasn’t until Rolo Tomassi returned to the UK in October and November that the brilliance of their year became tangible. In the space of six months, the size of the venues that they were playing at had doubled!

This is especially excellent when you consider that the quintet are terrific live performers, worthy of such increasing numbers. Even through such dark, twisted tracks as “Rituals” or “Alma Mater”, lead singer Eva Spence goes against the grain with wild dancing. Her energy is both infectious and appropriate, amplifying the anarchy of Rolo Tomassi’s tunes.

For quickly climbing several rungs on the ladder of success this year, and for being as vitalised as possible the entire time, Rolo Tomassi couldn’t not be on this list.
