4. Queen Crafted Themselves Into Stadium Royalty
If there is one thing Queen have become famous for, it's their big stadium tunes and performances. Everything from the thunder of Brian May's guitar solos to Freddie Mercury's mesmeric personality on the stage made the group truly legendary. However, it definitely took the band some time to truly find their calling as an all-out live specialist.
Brian May and Roget Tyler had played in the band Smile for some time before they recruited John Deacon and Freddie Mercury in 1970. Mercury helped push the group into more and more experimental and innovative avenues, with his undeniable charisma on stage already laying the foundations for the band's success.
Whilst the group definitely enjoyed some substantial success with releases such as A Night at the Opera in 1975, which included the singles You're My Best Friend and Bohemian Rhapsody, their calling as stadium rock specialists would come on the eve of the 1980s. The long hair and onesies rocked by Mercury in the early days were replaced by the iconic jeans, trainers, short hair and moustache that performances such as Live Aid made even more famous.
