10 Best Image Changes In Music History
3. Taylor Swift Left Country Behind For Pop
Born in Reading, Pennsylvania and raised with a Christian upbringing on a Christmas Tree farm, it's easy to forget how deeply rooted in traditional Country music Taylor Swift was for the first few years of her music career.
Having started out in her pre-teens with covers of Dolly Parton and Dixie Chicks, Swift was rejected by several record companies in Tennessee before eventually signing with Big Machine Records at the age of 16. Her first and second albums were still heavily influenced by her country roots, but the addition of her guitar skills and the catchiness of tunes like Love Song brought her some success on charts around the world.
Her image of a good Christian Country girl was quickly shifting however. Her fourth album, Red, was released in 2012 and was arguably the biggest shift in image for Taylor Swift over the course of her career. The far heavier pop sound behind songs like I Knew You Were Trouble and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together were matched by a far more stage friendly image for Swift, with her new look consisting of vibrant dresses and her striking red lipstick.
