10 Best Iron Maiden Songs

6. Aces High - Powerslave

In 1984, Iron Maiden opened their new album, Powerslave, with the hard-hitting Aces High. Many years and many albums later, the band have been opening shows as recently as 2017 in the same way, poignantly preceded by Winston Churchill's famous 'We shall fight them on the beaches' speech.

Like many of the songs from Iron Maiden's back catalogue, Aces High is based during the heat of war. Sang from the point of view of a British RAF fighter pilot, the song perfectly depicts the detail and strategy of a battle in the sky.

Adrian Smith and Dave Murray take centre stage for this song, carrying the track through its pulsating tempo with the trademark dualling guitars that the band has employed since the very beginning.

Now with Janick Gers also in the mix for live performances, Aces High is one of the most energetic songs the band has to offer, and is without a doubt the best way for Maiden to open their shows.
