10 Best Iron Maiden Songs
4. Run To The Hills - The Number Of The Beast
Run to the Hills opens with one of the most famous, recognisable drum fills in all of rock music.
Though this was a product of the genius of then drummer, Clive Burr on his final album with the band, the song has benefited from the addition of Nicko McBrain, who injects that bit more pace and personality on the skins.
Maiden have always been experts at bringing war to life through their songs, and with Run to the Hills they actually manage to show the battle from both sides of the field. The first chorus shows the point of view of the indigenous people of North America, with the rest of the song showing the side of the invading Europeans.
The Number of the Beast, even 27 years later, is still one of Maiden's strongest albums, so for Run to the Hills to stand out amongst the rest of these strong tracks is a true testament to its greatness.
