10 Best Iron Maiden Songs
3. The Number Of The Beast - The Number Of The Beast
While Run to the Hills certainly stands out on Bruce Dickinson's debut Maiden album, it is not quite the best. The title track on The Number of the Beast takes the crown, lifting the band to the next level, and bringing the boys a whole new level of publicity.
Naturally, the title and nature of the track led many people to believe the band were involved in some sort of satanic worship, when in reality the lyrics are based on nothing more than a nightmare Steve Harris had.
Though it was this that caught the attention of the masses, The Number of the Beast is actually one of the best technical pieces in the band's back catalogue, featuring a rare 5:4 time signature intro, followed by the kind of scream that earned Dickinson the nickname of 'the air raid siren'.
