10 Best Joe Rogan Experience Episodes With Musicians
8. Travis Barker (Episode 1239)
Travis Barker is one of the best drummers in the world, and after showcasing his incredible talent with Blink 182 for so long, has become one of the most famous. Who knows how many millions he has inspired over the years, but in 2008, his music story almost had a very different ending.
After surviving a plane crash that killed four people, Barker suffered burns on 65% of his body, and almost had to have his right foot amputated. Luckily, after 30 surgeries and fighting suicidal thoughts, the drummer is fully healed and hitting the skins as well as he ever has.
His conversation with Joe Rogan goes beyond the punk rock of Blink 182, as he spends a lot of time talking about his love of rap music. There are certainly limited opportunities for a live drummer to play with any rap artist, but Barker has over the years lived his dream and collaborated with some of the best.
One of the most inspiring things Travis Barker has done, as with many musicians, is get clean. At the point of this episode of the podcast in 2019, he had been sober of drugs and alcohol for an entire decade. This didn't stop him reminiscing and talking to Rogan about the kinds of things he used to smoke, and how he was nearly caught and killed for it in Iraq, however.
