10 Best Linkin Park Songs
6. My December - Hybrid Theory (2000)
Thanks to some polished production and an instantly recognisable sound, Hybrid Theory has stood the test of time. As great as Linkin Park’s debut album is, there isn’t much variety on the record. Almost every track contains rapped verses and catchy choruses with power chords and down-tuned guitars.
'My December', on the other hand, breaks the formula. The instrumental is completely different from the rest of the album as it is driven primarily by a piano, and Joe Hahn’s frequent use of turntables makes this track even more unique.
Though the lighter side of Bennington’s voice became more prevalent in later albums, it was relatively lacking throughout Hybrid Theory. Consequently, his softer tone on 'My December' is a welcome change.
Why this song was only ever chosen as a bonus track will always remain a mystery. Not only is it a beautiful song in its own right, it would have also made for a nice change of pace had it been placed in the middle of Hybrid Theory.
