10 Best Live Rock Albums

7. Live And Dangerous - Thin Lizzy

With a fantastic hard rock assault and Phil Lynott's scathing lyrics, Thin Lizzy were one of the most unique hard rock bands to come out of the 70's. Boasting a twin guitar assault and a slamming groove, all of Lizzy's material took the stand-alone stories of Phil Lynott and turned them into dramatic tales of hard rock. Once the opportunity to put out a live album came up, the band pulled out all the stops for a performance for the ages.

From the opening surge of "Jailbreak," this album is one of the most visceral live recordings to ever come out of the UK, with Lynott bringing raw attitude to every line he sings. On the other end of the spectrum, the guitar duo of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham give the songs a sonic character as they use guitar harmonies to bring an almost hypnotic groove to the music. The assistance of producer Tony Visconti and harmonica from Huey Lewis give the album an added layer of sonic variety as well.

The songs fluctuate between rock ragers, ("Jailbreak") Celtic rock, ("Emerald") and even more ballad-centric material ("Dancing in the Moonlight.") By baring their souls in their music, Thin Lizzy practically assembled their greatest hits collection into one immaculate hour of hard-edged rock music.
