10 Best Live Versions Of Rock Music Classics
2. Blitzkrieg Bop - Ramones (1977)
Live footage of the Ramones back in their heyday, is sadly in short supply, and any footage you can find is lacking in quality, but in a way it's fitting. It's certainly in keeping with the punk rock aesthetic.
As you would expect, this is full of fist pumping, bouncing crowds and a f**k load of high energy. Joey Ramone ushers in the track with a "Take it Dee Dee!" before all hell breaks loose.
Dee Dee bounces around with all the ferocity of his bass line. Johnny can be seen thrashing furiously on the guitar, his strumming hand all but a blur. And the unearthly tall Joey, looms over the front of the stage to such a degree your certain his next fist pump will be enough to send him toppling.
As is fitting, the crowd is a blur of leather jackets, raised fists and insensately bopping heads. This was a no nonsense punch to the face of pure punk rock, all delivered in under 2 minutes. There isn't much more to say other than "HEY HO, LET'S GO!"
