10 Best Live Versions Of Rock Music Classics

1. This Must Be The Place - Talking Heads (1984)

If you could only chose one new-wave band to listen to for the rest of your life, it would be tough call between the dulcet and ominous drone of Joy Division and the effortlessly enjoyable Talking Heads...

This wasn't just a live concert, this was a piece of theatre. In 1984 Talking Heads created one of the most celebrated concert films of all time. David Byrne took to the stage alone, with nothing but an acoustic guitar and a cassette deck. He then proceeded to work through a selection of the groups hits and with each song he was joined by more members of the band, until the stage was full of musicians.

There are a number of moments during this concert that captivate you. But non so much as the moment David Byrne, lit almost exclusively by a single standing lamp, is joined by his band for This Must Be The Place.

Exhibiting a head bob reminiscent of a hungry pigeon, Byrne serenades the crowd with the '80s classic. The grand culmination comes when he performs the the most graceful two step anyone has ever done, while dancing with a lamp.
