10 Best Manchester Albums Of The 2010s

8. My Mind Makes Noises - Pale Waves (2018)

Produced by The 1975’s Matty Healy (also from Manchester), Pale Waves punctuates the late 2010s penchant for 1980s nostalgia. My Mind Makes Noises is a solid goth-pop break-up album. It is an obvious topic choice given the band formed at university in Manchester, but done with professional musicianship and craft.

The guitar licks of There’s a Honey wouldn’t be lost on Factory Records. Kiss has shades of a female-fronted track by The Smiths. And second single Television Romance is a gleaming indie banger that is a great introductory track for new fans. Eighteen also slaps as a great entry level track for younger fans.

Sad themes packaged in a candy wrapper with the sweet vocals of Heather Baron-Gracie, Pale Waves' My Mind Makes Noises is enjoyable both as a singles album and a cohesive album experience.

A follow-up to the 2018 album is unlikely in early 2020, as the band are set to support Halsey on tour. Global domination looks likely to be the next steps for this Manchester quartet.
