10 Best Metal Albums Of The 2000s - Ranked
5. Marilyn Manson – Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)
Telling a dark story of death and violence, the parable narrative of Holy Wood is one of Manson’s more unique album concepts, taking a great deal of critical praise for the twisted and brilliant tale it spins.
The album also drew some considerable praise for the ideas it put forward offering more depth and new insight into religious and political events of years passed. Holy Wood by this estimation is the most interesting and inspirationally written album that Manson has ever produced.
The sound on Holy Wood is Manson’s standard industrial metal style but is infused with elements of glam and art rock. Some songs on the record can be very guitar-heavy, and John 5 is a master of the industrial riff.
Obviously, the vocals of Manson are great, and he shows a never before seen range on the acoustic version of The Nobodies, which was exclusive to the United Kingdom release. Highlights of the nineteen-track album include The Love Song, The Fight Song, and The Nobodies, each holding catchy choruses and replay value, despite also carrying a dark and taboo lyrical theme.
