6. Cradle Of Filth – Midian
Cradle Of Filth’s Midian and its importance to extreme metal cannot be overstated. The album’s lead single Her Ghost In The Fog and its accompanying music video were featured heavily on MTV2 and gained the album some considerable mainstream exposure.
The writing on the record is wonderfully evil, and the instrumentals match this perfectly, setting a really dark and gothic mood, with some of the tracks feeling genuinely occult and sinister, such is the gimmick of Cradle Of Filth.
Dani Filth puts in some great vocal performances here, the likes of which he has yet to match, and Adrian Erlandsson really outdoes himself behind the drum kit. To top it all off, horror legend Doug Bradley narrates on the tracks Dark Magick For Adepts, Tortured Soul Asylum, and Her Ghost In The Fog, adding to the already impressive ambiance created by Midian.
