10 Best Metal EPs Of 2017 (So Far)

3. Tiberius - The Beautiful Ones

Technical, melodic and unyielding in their grandiosity, Edinburgh metallers Tiberius are basically Silicon Messiah (2000)-era Blaze Bayley crossed with Dream Theater.

May heralded the release of the Scottish quintet's second EP, the four-track The Beautiful Ones. And while Slyde's Back Again is a guaranteed hit for fans of progressive giants like Rush and Coheed & Cambria, The Beautiful Ones is a release for experimentalists that love their melodies, but also crave something more... pummelling.

Technically, The Beautiful Ones is one of the most impressive discs of 2017 thus far, with the instrumentals ceaseless in their impressiveness and polyrhythmic intricacy. How the fingers of dual guitarists Chris Foster and Jahan Tabrizi are still attached to their hands will forever remain a mystery.

Yet, the EP matches this explosive complexity with captivating singalongs and enormous choruses from singer Grant Barclay, making for an equally accessible journey for radio rock addicts.

For lovers of TesseracT, Artificial Language and SikTh, The Beautiful Ones is truly a must-listen.
