10 Best Metal EPs Of 2017 (So Far)
4. The Stars Of Fiction - 7
Sumptuously blending '90s stoner rock with Mastodon-esque, dirt-under-the-nails progressiveness, Canadians The Stars of Fiction hit hard with their second release, 7, when it saw the light of day in April of this year.
The band's first output in over four years, 7 is a short trip that fills itself with biting riffs and immensely catchy hooks. Throwing back to such classic, sludgy acts as Lowrider as well as modern shred-lords like Grand Magus and Below, this EP oozes attitude and headbang-inducing brilliance from the very second opening track "Downtown" whirs its way to life.
However, second entry "(I Am The) King" is undoubtedly the highlight here, feeling anthemic to the core with every passing moment.
Transcending both the stoner and progressive sub-genres, 7 is definitely the most underrated metal disc of 2017.
