10 Best Metal Music Videos Of All Time
8. Breaking The Habit - Linkin Park
Across the nu-metal genre, all the bands seemed to be tackling topics of pain, abuse, and various other ugly sides of life. Out of the whole bunch, Linkin Park was always focused on the self and how toxic inward pain can be. As the band reached their sophomore release Meteora, the band had created an emotionally stirring art piece with their suicide-inspired tune "Breaking the Habit."
Rather than find actors to portray the plight of a depressive person, the video itself has breathtaking animation inspired by anime as it basically describes a suicide in reverse. From the shots of the police on the ground surveying the body all the way through the man's life leading up to this moment is one of the more poignant moments in 2000's metal.
The song's ending of finding clarity in your thoughts and seeking the help you need puts the rest of the animation into perspective as the man backs out of committing suicide. Even if the song has incredibly morbid connotations, this video is a touching consolation for those contemplating suicide that no doubt helped a lot of teenagers get through the rough patches in their lives.
