10 Best Metal Music Videos Of All Time

7. Rooster - Alice In Chains

When you turned on the video for Alice in Chains's "Rooster," fans would have most likely expected something hazy and slightly heavy to fly off the screen towards you. Instead, AOC begins this outing with a subtle documentary-style production as guitarist Jerry Cantrell talks to his father about his time in Vietnam.

After the real-life accounts of Cantrell, the song slowly bleeds through the speakers as Layne Staley begins to sing about the Rooster, a kid caught in the chaos of 60's Vietnam. As the song builds, the visuals from the battle grounds become more disturbing as we are treated to shots of the vast jungle that seems to have no end. When the song finally does explode, the visuals follow the song's intensity with images of dismembered soldiers as well as the mental instability that some of the Rooster's comrades are suffering from.

The sequences shown are absolutely bone-chilling and could go toe-to-toe with some of the best war movie shots in history. It becomes all the more real when you realize the Rooster in question was in fact Cantrell's father. He made it through to the other side, but it was not an easy road back to ordinary life.
