Muse had been trying to shake the Radiohead comparisons since day one, but this track proved that they were something else entirely. The keyboards of this song come in subtly before the guitars hit you like a sledgehammer.
Bellamy’s falsetto as he sings about wanting peace of mind has a muted agony to it. It’s as if he wants to be calm but the music represent his internal thoughts that are keeping his mind racing.
The song then ends on a dark minor chord which leaves almost a creative question mark on how the narrator is supposed to feel. This one proves that Muse came off their first record ready to kill.
