10 Best Muse Songs
5. Map Of The Problematique- Black Holes And Revelations (2006)
Muse have always had the theme of dystopia and fear in their lyrics and this song is possibly one of their darkest. Set to a synthesizer line, Bellamy presents the auditory equivalent of danger being imminent all around you.
The drums on this song by Dominic Howard move in metronomic time like a heart that is beating right out of its chest. The melodic line of “Loneliness be over” gives a certain sense of despair as the music continues in lockstep with the synthesizers. It’s the sound of a man longing for peace when he knows it’s not going to come.
It all comes together to depict a panic attack that you almost do want to end.
