Whereas Kendrick Lamar's God Is Gangsta gets points for its slick, professional direction and gorgeous cinematography, Death Grips' Giving Bad People Good Ideas - released off their 2016 record Bottomless Pit - gets points for, well...the exact opposite.
As usual, Death Grips completely reject that idea that music videos should be enormous, lavish productions, creating their own promotional clip with nothing more than a single shoe. Yes, a shoe. All that happens in the video is that the shoe is torn to pieces, the sole stripped off and the lace tied in various positions.
Yet for all its in-your-face simplicity, the video for Giving Bad People Good Ideas is totally memorable, and somehow a little bit hypnotising. There's something dirty and primal about the whole thing, like watching a kid forego cutlery to play with their food. Plus, watching a shoe "mouth" the words to Death Grips is totally hilarious.
