3. A-ha - Take On Me

The Norwegian trio had already release signature song Take On Me to minor success as their debut single in 1984, but it wasn't until they retooled it and matched it with this video that it broke out to become a global smash hit the following year.

Helmed by Steve Barron, the man behind the visuals for Michael Jackson's iconic Billie Jean, the clip featured lead singer Morten Harket as the protagonist of a comic strip that transports a female reader into its pages, with the innovative stylistic approach achieved through a process known as rotoscoping.
