10 Best New Heavy Metal Bands Of 2018

1. Conjurer

There is nothing comparable to Conjurer. The enigmatic Brits unite sludge, doom and death metal to create one of the most pummelling yet unique sounds in heavy music. And their unmatched individuality in 2018 has given them an utterly fantastic year.

First, the band released their full-length debut, Mire, in March. It immediately swept up rave reviews, with many an observer (this one very much included) declaring it to be an early contender for the title of “album of the year”. Many months down the line, that perception has not changed. Even after a multitude of listens, Mire is still the heavy, jolting ball-punch that it was when played for the very first time.

Armed with both an album and enormous hype, Conjurer spent the rest of the year capitalising on their start to 2018 with a cavalcade of vicious live performances. Whether it was at festivals like Bloodstock and Euroblast or in support slots under Frontierer, Monolord and Conan, these lads dominated! Their shows proved to be just as vicious as their album and quickly converted any uninitiated onlookers.

By doing the impossible and beginning to live up to what seemed to be insurmountable hype, Conjurer are easily the best new band of the year.
