10 Best Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Songs

8. 'Jubilee Street'- From Push The Sky Away

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6rTZe6gtS8 With the departure of Mick Harvey from the Bad Seeds after Dig Lazarus Dig!!! many were anxious to see what sort of album Nick Cave would front up with next. The answer is that Push the Sky Away sounds reminiscent of the Dirty Three - the other band of co-writer Warren Ellis with swirling violins, intricate percussion and songs that resemble soundscapes as much as anything else. Jubilee Street has this idea in spades, with Cave singing about the death of a prostitute who the singer frequently visited only to feel his own life unravel as he examines his own hypocrisies and double standards. The song starts off with little more than a little guitar refrain and some soft drumming only to slowly build thanks mainly to Ellis' epic violin playing, which pushes the song into ever bigger horizons before a beautiful finish. Incidentally, the actual video clip has some naughty bits, so I've hunted down the above version instead.
