10 Best Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Songs

7. 'There She Goes My Beautiful World'- From Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jc0ib5Rh5s Where else do you get literary figures' lives shoehorned into a love song without it sounding bizarre? The Bad Seeds have always been a group that has married both the lowbrow and the highbrow, but perhaps nowhere is it better done that in this song - with Cave's funny lyrics being driven by a great ensemble of guitars, piano, drums and even a gospel choir as he shouts to the heavens about the virtues of his girl. As he extols about John Wilmot's syphilis, Dylan Thomas' alcoholism and Karl Marx's socialist writings, one cannot help but be swept up by the pace and joy of the song as it rollicks along to its conclusion. !--nextpage-->

6. 'Deanna'- From Tender Prey

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxORulyOXs8 Apparently Cave based this song loosely on the hymn 'Oh Happy Day' as recited by the Edwin Hawkins' Singers. If true, it would have to be the greatest divergence in subject matter between two songs of similar tunes. 'Oh Happy Day' talks about Jesus saving mankind from his sins. 'Deanna' on the other hand, seems to talk about a couple on a killing spree as they tear up the landscape and equate it to some sort of twisted version of love. Behind this is a thumping rhythm line that pulses with ill intent and a organ that threatens to take the whole song screaming down some sort of pit. A wonderfully garage-rock song from the Bad Seeds.
